Parents or guardians, who are interested in having their child evaluated by the Mount Pleasant Area School District through a school-based multidisciplinary evaluation (initial evaluation) or reevaluation (already identified as needing special education supports), should provide a written request to the Building Principal located in their child’s school.
The written request should include the reason(s) for the request and specifically, the educational concern(s) that you have for your child (i.e. academic, behavioral, social). In-turn, the District will either agree to the evaluation by issuing a Permission to Evaluate/Re-Evaluate Consent form or reject the evaluation by issuing a Notice of Recommended Educational Placement (NOREP), which would indicate the reason(s) why the evaluation is being rejected.
If an evaluation/re-evaluation is agreed to by the District and written parent or guardian consent is granted, the student evaluation will be completed and a report that outlines all of the findings will be disseminated to the parent or guardian within 60 calendar days. In most cases, the parent or guardian will be invited to attend a multidisciplinary meeting to review the results of the report, ask questions to school, etc. If the parent is unable to attend a multi-disciplinary meeting, the information can be shared via a phone conference.
An IEP, if deemed necessary, will be developed within 30 days of the report date. At least annually, each child’s IEP and his/her school performance will be reviewed for the purpose of specifying the future educational program for the child.
At least every three years, a multidisciplinary re-evaluation is conducted to review a child’s program and eligibility for special education. If a student is identified as Intellectual Disability the multidisciplinary re-evaluation is conducted every 2 years.
If you believe that your child is in need of special help in order to make educational progress in school, that is not normally needed by other children, contact your child's Principal, Guidance Counselor, or the Coordinator of Special Education Services, Anna Hare, at 724.547.4100, Ext. 6930. All requests for evaluations must be made in writing. All information will be kept confidential.
