SAVE THE DATE-- MONDAY, MAY 20, 2024 This school year, Mr. Gary Gray's students worked with Case Technologies on a 3D digital imaging project through which visualization software was used to recreate a structure of historical significance in the community as it was in its heyday. Through a community vote, Mount Pleasant residents chose the L.E. Smith Glass Factory as the building of focus for the project. The Mount Pleasant Historical Society was instrumental in providing resources and opportunities for students to learn about the rich history and prominence of glass production in Mount Pleasant. They have been true partners in the educational process and will play an active role in showcasing our collective work. Join us on the evening of Monday, May 20th for a showcase of student work on the Portals Project. The Portals Project Community Showcase will be held at 6 PM in the auditorium and rotunda area of the senior high and will feature the work of students from multiple grades and classes. 5th graders, who will get to make glass mosaics with Pittsburgh Glass later this month, will share what they learned about the glass blowing process. 7th and 8th grade students will share brochures featuring what they learned about the L.E. Smith Glass Factory and the Portals project; and, a documentary created by AP English students will feature highlights of the project, as well as interviews with individuals who worked at the L.E. Smith glass factory. An exciting aspect of the event will be the opportunity for community members to put on virtual reality headsets and view students' 3D depiction of the the L.E. Smith Glass Factory. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a punch recipe that originated from the factory which will be served from authentic L.E. Smith Glass Factory punch bowls and mugs. As quantities permit, those in attendance will get to take a punch mug home with them as a souvenir. Come one, come all-- take a step back in time to another dimension in Mount Pleasant history. We hope to see you there!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Our students participated in the Envirothon at Twin Lakes today, where they rotated between learning stations on renewable energy, aquatics, soils, forestry, and wildlife, and then were tested on their knowledge of the content. They were given a K-9 demonstration from the Game Commission at lunch on how their service dogs can track scents such as ammo casings, animal carcasses, and humans for search and rescue.
